Default Update !

Friday morning appointment. The ENT "Care" ladies came up to us whilst we waited and asked me how I was. "On Tenterhooks!" I said. "You'll be OK", said Debbie. Did she know? After all whilst they are very good at making all us patients think that they are there just for you - did she really know?
Finally - we get called in ... the head oncologist, the oncologist that told me the diagnosis in January, and another consultant. all in the room.

Uh-oh - why THREE of them?

The Head honcho - (a pretty young lady) didn't keep us waiting. "The PET scan didn't show anything to worry about ...how are things going?

A brief chat about residual issues, including myconcerns aboiut my loss of voice, then the camera down the left nostril - "Yup,tongue is now clear - now can you sing a scale?"
I tried - couldn't get past the fifth or sixth note whilst he watched.

Apparently everything is still there but muscles are not working properly - so I'm to go to speech therapy to work on my voice.

But ... Seems I am past the Big C - next check up in two months.

Still some way to go to get to "normal" but ....

Thanks to all for your support. It really helped my spirits.

Glad to hear it! Kind of like learning to walk again after being in a bed too long. All the best with the rehab, SM.

Wow, that's the kind of news you want to hear! You're beating it, Andy. You'll soon be back singing again just like before. This is wonderful to know...happy for you!

Glad you're beating this.

A word of cautionary encouragement:

I had a major (5 hour) thoracic surgery. Afterwards everything was intact but the vocal nerves were not working right.

It's not the muscles but the nerve.

It will come back but it will be maddeningly frustrating. One second it's 100% then it goes to 0% mid syllable. Completely random seeming with no pattern but it is improving. I've never experienced a recovery as chaotic as my voice.

So relax when that DOES happen (it will). It's part of the process.

2-3 months later my voice was 100% and stayed that way ever since.

good luck!
