Default How do you like your OM-21 for fingerstyle?

I'll be turning 63 this month and I'm planning ahead for my pre-retirement purchases, lol. I'm thinking Furch, Waterloo then maybe OM-21.

My 2012 OM-21 was my main guitar for 3 years and it worked great for fingerstyle. And fingerstyle is 99.99% of what I play.

If you are sensitive to string spacing at the bridge be sure to check the specifications for the OM-21 you are considering. Martin has reduced the bridge string spacing over the years and the current model is down to 2-5/32”.

I had an OM-21 for a while Barry and it worked well for fingerstyle but I much prefer the new OM-28 and have a MFG Sitka VTS model that's just right for most anything you care to throw at it. Just my two cents?

Love mine for fingerstyle, Hawaiian slack key, English folk. Mine is a custom with 1 7/8 nut width and 2 5/16th bridge string spacing.

Hi Barry,

I have listened to some of your soundcloud tunes. Assuming that the picture of the headstock corresponds to the guitar being played, I must say that I prefer the sounds of the Martin and Guild over the others. But those are dreadnaughts.

Richard Smith, Tommy Emmanuel, Pete Huttlinger, and Lawrence Juber among others have all displayed a preference for the OM body style, though their choice of manufacturer, tonewoods, and cut-away preferences may differ. They certainly all played a wide range of music on their main instrument, from blues, to jazz to rock to country to alternative tunings. The OM is a very versatile body shape for sure.

I would suggest that you look at the OM-21 first as well as a Collings OM. If you really want to splurge right off the bat, you can check out the new Martin 000-21 TSP with the Clarence White enlarged soundhole.

Regards,

CK
