Default NGD Gibson Les Paul Standard

I spotted this used 2016 Les Paul on Amazon (Canada) and decided to take a chance. Wow, what a fantastic guitar - that includes tone, playability and looks. There's no way this Les Paul is used. I'm guessing it was bought and returned quickly since there's no wear, just a small scratch on the back.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy the Burstbucker Pros as much as I do. Not nearly as bright (or harsh) as I thought they'd be. Great rockers for sure.

All 4 of the control knobs are push/pull giving numerous tonal options, although I tend to stick with the traditional options and use the tone and volume knobs.

Some pics:

For those who don't know, Gibson started using PCBs a few years ago. Makes modding more difficult.

That's a beautiful LP! Congrats! Do the push-pulls control splitting the 'buckers and putting them in series parallel?

Thanks Bob.

The Volume knobs perform coil splitting for their respective pickup. The rhythm tone knob puts the two pickups out of phase with each other. It only works when both pickups are on (middle switch position).

The volume tone knob is a bypass straight to the output, regardless of what is selected. So, even if the rhythm pickup is selected, 'pulling' the volume's tone knob will make the bridge pickup active and bypass the tone knob. I actually like that.

Very sweet. Who could ask for anything more? Were you swayed at all by own recently acquired Cherry Sunburst Agile?

Apropos of nothing, I found my Agile's string spacing at the bridge to be 2 3/64 (51.9mm), noticeably narrower than the 2 1/8 (53.92mm) on my G&L asat (for reference, my Taylor acoustic measures 2 11/64 (55.14mm)). I wondered why my string fingering was even worse than usual on the Agile, despite its 1 3/4" neck width, and now I know.

I aspire to more electric fingerstyle stuff, so I've ordered a Schaller adjustable roller bridge from Stewmac that allows string spacing out to 2 1/4 (57.11mm) that will allow me to experiment a bit. The pickup pole (extremes) distance is 52mm, so that's a limiting factor to spacing. I'm looking forward to that project and thought I'd pass it on in case others are interested.

Enjoy that beautiful Gibson!

I think they call that a "blower" switch - it blows past all the other stuff and goes direct out. It's really useful for setting a volume for rhythm and then pop the switch for lead.

Hey Darwin, it's heavy for a modern weight relief guitar --> 9 pounds 5 ounces. I reweighed my '99 Les Paul Standard Plus that I weighed on that same kitchen scale years ago, no change (9 pounds 10 ounces) so I feel the weight is correct.

Just ordered a new leather strap and I'm going to install some Schaller strap locks too.
