Default Photobucket is holding photos for ransom now

Apparently photobucket changed their TOS a couple of days ago, and now third party hosting costs $499 a year.

All the photos I posted in the various forums I frequent are no longer visible unless I pay PB their ransom of $499.

I'm not a blogger, but over theyears I've posted photos here and there. For instance, my NGD pictures here are no longer visible unless I pay their ransom.

Well that's rotten! The contract reader in me can't help but Wonder if that possibility was buried deep in Terms when free accounts were created.

Ps - is there any chance you have computer or phone backups that contain these photos ? I am thinking you had them locally somewhere in order to upload them....maybe not all lost?

I still have all of them on my computer, so they are not lost, but every photo I've ever posted on different forums is not viewable.

Seems to work without any problem for me.-

I read lots of people having all sorts of insurmountable problems with PB.

For a free service that lets me store & link files I have zero complaints.

I have no idea what you're talking about, just downloaded this, have had no notifications of any policy changes, downloaded to an Infiniti forum too.

No problems I can detect.............

Are you sure that your account hasn't been hacked?

Why would you need commercial third-party hosting services?

i dug a little deeper into the "third party hosting" aspect of Gmountain's post.
this is on Photobucket's website -

*What is 3rd Party Hosting?
Alternatively refered to as inline linking, "hotlinking" is the action of linking to an image or object on another server. An example of hotlinking would be using an <img> tag to display a JPEG image that you uploaded to your Photobucket account so it will appear on a different website like Etsy, eBay auction listings, blogs, forum messages, etc.

I read this to mean that you can log into your photobucket account and see your photos, no problem, But you cannot (without a fee) put a LINK to the image into another site, like the AGF.

i don't know what fazool might have done to get his image to post - perhaps he can chime in with some details that would be helpful in understanding how to post the image without using IMG tags.

I just posted this image from my photobucket account. All I did was copy the URL and paste it between the [img]...[/img] tags.
