Default NGD - Savoy Joins My Blackbird Family

Photos of the newest addition... Due to very poor planning on my part, I had ordered a Savoy and had only a couple of hours with it due to scheduled trips. I ended up returning the first one because I just couldn't get comfortable with the size in the short time I had with it. I found the one pictured below at a local dealer, Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto, CA. I brought it home three days ago and cannot put it down. I am so happy I found another one, and took the appropriate time to properly assess it. Joe is really onto something magical with the Savoy. It's tone is unique... dark and woody, yet very round and full. I still love my Lucky 13, but I am sure the Savoy is going to get a lot playing time now.

If all goes well, I will post some sound samples to AGF before I take the Savoy with me on a roadie to Europe in two weeks. Cheers! ~ Mike

Congrats Mike! Beautiful guitar. I'd be very interested in hearing your comparisons to the Lucky 13 after you've played with the Savoy for awhile. Is there much overlap with the two, or are they sufficiently different to justify having both?

Thanks Ben! I will do a Lucky 13 versus Savoy comparison recording in the near future. My initial impression is that they are very different beasts. One benefit for the Savoy is that it is pretty much the same size as a Taylor GS Mini, and can travel more easily than the L13. Tonally, the Savoy is more like a wood guitar. Both have such big voices for their size... but different. Let's see how I feel in a few months.

Congratulations, Mike. The Savoy is terrific. I can't put mine down.

Very nice! In the pic, the color of the ekoa on the uke appears much darker than on the Savoy, or is it just the lighting? Are there color variations from instrument to instrument?

It's the lighting and the angles Tom. The Farallon and the Savoy have similar hues. There are slight variations, but they are similar. Thanks!
