"I think it's perfectly suit for true Norvegian black metal musicians (or as a present for vintage rare collector), because the sonic palette is really uncompromisingly evil, to say nothing of this instrument's looks." Last edited by mc1; 11-01-2014 at 07:05 AM. |

Metal guitar
Didn't Ric Ocasek have an all metal guitar built that he used on "Romeo and Juliette" ?

Lol@ the sellers description. Norwegian death metal! Now that would interesting played on that!!
It looks like a piece of Sputnik has been attached to a 1930s regal neck. Certainly one you don't see everyday.......

That's because it was on a Soviet-era acoustic guitar before it was bolted to this body:
I spent a week playing concerts in Magadan, Russian Far East, in 1992, and attended lots of soulful after-parties in crammed apartments while guitars with necks like this one's were passed around. The painted-on fingerboard is very typical of Soviet-era stringed instruments, as are the brass frets and the crude, asymmetrical string slots on the headstock. (No, your eyes aren't fooling you, the two slots don't quite match. Not uncommon with those guitars.) The neck DOES have a certain Stalinist-Brutalist visual aesthetic that goes nicely with the Tortured Rhomboid shape of the body. That pale pea green is also a common color that I saw painted on institutional walls over there, like the hallway and classroom walls in the various schools I visited. It's entirely within the realm of possibility that some school janitor made this guitar body for himself during work hours, using work supplies and bolting it together on his workbench. What I wonder about is exactly how this instrument gets strung. Based on what's visible in the photo, it looks as though strings would have to be threaded in through the soundhole, which I think we can all agree would be an enormous pain in the butt come string-changing time... Reminds me of the Russian beauty contest.
Nobody won but a tractor came second.

I think it is kinda cool looking in a primitive-almost-Cubist sorta way, but I am sure it sounds like it is filled with borscht....
