It's a pretty serious thing. Sounds like eBay could easily be violating the law too:

Very serious, indeed. That's why I'd assumed the thing would've been long gone by now. I've seen items vanish in a twinkling after they caught the AGF's attention.

Best rosy-lensed possibility is that a sting's going down. (Not taking bets on it ...)

I saw that, now it has another bid. I'm starting to think that maybe Hillbilly has the right idea, blow it up with $100,000 bids and see if that gets ebay's attention.

My only other overly-charitable guess is, maybe eBay's been burned by booting genuine items, so now they're shying off. (Not taking bets on this one, either ... it's only a nano-bit more likely than "sting theory.")

Wierd because eBay sells soooo much stuff and needs to keep their good name. You'd think that if they even got the slightest idea that something might be counterfeit, they'd yank it in two seconds.

Maybe they've sunken into depravity. If so, sounds like they're asking to be sent down to Hurtsboro County.

Surprised no one has mentioned the wood on the heel/neck. It sure is not Martin Mahogany or Cedar. Interesting (not in a good way) stripes on the heel.

Getting more interesting. Up to $5100 and most of the bids are by e***i who has 0 feed backs. Looks like eBay to me.

Since the seller is not offering a return, my understanding is that if it sells and is counterfeit eBay will need to make good on it. I just read their buyer protection policy.

No good deal anyway but getting a fake at currently $5100 would really make you want to eat your fist.

Becasue Ebay doesn't work on our time. The listing still has almost 3 days before ending and I'm sure they're giving the seller time to remove it. It doesn't matter to anyone up and until the close time. I've seen too many of these pulled - go play your guitars. This too shall pass.

There are only 2 bidders. The most insistent bidder has never purchased on Ebay. There's no way a rookie bidder is going to bid $5,600 on a fake guitar. Something's up.

It actually could be Mahogany but looks like it could be Cherry.

the rosette design and implementation also tells a lot about a guitar.

It is tough watching somebody about to learn a hard lesson. I am surprised no one has used the 'Ask a question' on the seller's listing page. Something like: "The guitar pictured does not look at all like a Martin D18. Do you have proof this guitar is really a Martin D18?" It would show up on the listing page and put people on notice something may be wrong no matter what the seller may answer--if a possible bidder would read that far.
