Default decent cheap all-hog import?

I have a kids' folk-music program I will be bringing to schools, libraries, daycare centers, etc.

I like the sound of all-mahogany guitars. I believe Woody played one for a while.

Are there any el-cheapo all-hog guitars I should look for used?

I don't need or want any cutaway or electronics for this application.

I have zero budget, but I'm trying to gather info for reference.

Thanks!

I got a fantastic Ibanez Artwood AC-240 used for $165. Best bang-for-the-buck I spent on a guitar.

It's my patio/porch guitar and I love it!

If you do not mind laminate back/sides then Alvarez has two nice ones. A "folk" size which is a 000/OM and a "Parlor" which is a 00.

Sigma 000m. Laminate back and sides. An all solid is a couple of hundred more.

Try to find a Guild M-120. Short scale, all solid mahogany. Probably $400, but will play easily.

Epiphone has an all hog version of their EL 00. The 50th Anniversary Caballero that was released a few years back is an all laminate, all hog mall bodied guitar.

These are suprisingly good. Solid top. Nice hardware.

But make sure you look for the Artwood models. They have Exotic wood models that are su b par. Pretty, but dont sound like much to me. And in the same price range.

Those are about $650 (M-120). I just got a used M-120ce for $425. Its 25.5 scale according to the specs.

I think the members will be able to better help you if you give them some idea of what you want to spend, even if it's just $25.

Here's a cheap all-hog import. I hear they are pretty decent.

2 thoughts...

old harmony h165 for an all hog...over the past few years have bought two h165 and one h162 that were playable and had already had neck resets for sinfully cheap.

other thought...why not just do a local post or crowd-funding thing for some donation guitars for your program...there are a lot of beaters that with just a bit of work and a new set of strings that could become serviceable.

This got reviewed and awarded 'Best Acoustic under £1000' a couple of years ago. Cheap too; under £200.

A friend has one and it does sound nice.

HA! I happen to be a person who LOVES to extol the virtues of cheap sausages on the grill... I grew up 5 minutes away from my county's fairgrounds, and the annual fair is a big deal in our community. Sausage-and-peppers sandwiches from a certain vendor there are legendary.

The kids'-music program that I am trying to bring to schools, etc requires that I have a guitar that sounds good and plays well and "looks the part", if you know what I mean.

Unfortunately, in answer to some folks' queries earlier in the thread, I don't HAVE a budget - I won't have the money any time soon, so it matters not how much I would have to spend. I could say I'd like to find something under $1000 but that would be a totally arbitrary number, since I can't even spend a tenth of that when I don't have it.

I was just thinking out loud in this thread. A vintage-looking non-cutaway dread or 000 or some such with no electronics would be lovely.

I have played those Ibanez "open pore" acoustics recently. They were/are great-sounding, and the parlor-sized one was LOUD, too. I'd grab one in a minute if I could.
