Default The Pretender

I have been asked, by several people, to post this Jackson Browne song that's on my SoundCloud page. They seemed to really like this one and hopefully some of you will too. Thanks in advance for taking the time to listen.

That's great, Willie. Superb vocal. I'm always hoping for the blues, but that's a wonderful rendition. Better than Jackson Browne himself. I think I could listen to your voice all day.

Vocals are better than the original. I'm not kidding -- and I'm a big JB fan.

Hey Willie, I remember this when you posted it a while back. I had it as a favorite on soundcloud and listened to it many many times on my way into work (to get some of that legal tender!). One day I went to listen to it and it was gone...so I'm glad it's back!
As popular as JB is, I'd never heard this song prior to hearing your version months ago. Then I heard the JB version and have to agree with the others that I prefer your version much more than the original. Not to sound all corny and cliche but I literally get the chills every time I listen to your version.

Willie,

You know I love your stuff, the playing and singing are your usual excellent, but the guitar recording is "not so much" this time, not your playing, it's kind of shrill and not as natural and warm as some of your other recordings. Nitpicking for sure, but at your level the other stuff is a given.

Excellent, just not nuts about the guitar tone on this one, you are a great musician.

Kerbie,
Thank you. Every once in a while I have to do a non-blues tune or two. I promise it won't happen too often!

Mau,
That's pretty high praise and I really appreciate it.

Warren,
Thank you, it's great to have someone appreciate what you are doing. I sometimes have to take songs off of Soundcloud in order to add others but I had so many requests to put it back up, I had little choice.

Thanks again.

Rich,
Thank you. I can't remember what guitar was used for this recording but I don't think it was mine. And, I believe it was tuned down a whole step (I remember the strings feeling kind of sloppy?).

Rob,
Thank you! This was played using a tuning of DGCFAD (standard tuning turned down a whole step.)
