I just bought a Taylor 114ce last weekend and have been really impressed with it. It has actually really over delivered on my expectations of it.

Pick one of the new Yamaha A Series guitars.
They have a concert body in your price range. All solid wood constructions and an excellent preamp / pick up system. |

the Martin 00-15. Everytime I go to Elderly instruments, I have to play one.

I swear by my Eastman AC508, coming in at about 1/3 the cost of my Taylor & Marthin HD28 it comes very close in workmanship quality, playablity and sound.

Voyage Air VAOM series. I'm very serious. I own/use a VAOM-06 which is the best sub-$1000 I've played. Half your budget actually… That way if he/she doesn't stay invested, it can become your travel guitar. |

Consider Eastman, Martin 15's, Larrivee. Don't forget Yamaha LS6 and LS16 too.
