Thile is awesome. He's the guy who got this guitar player to pick up the mando in the first place. He's such a monster player... and has been since he was a small child. A true prodigy and the most amazing mandolinist I've ever seen. Just plays tour-de-force pieces so effortlessly. I grew-up (in the 80s) a disciple of Yngwie Malmsteen because I was drawn to his virtuosity on the instrument. That's what blew me away about Chris... he plays mando like that... without all of the over-the-top stuff. Of course... he's not a heavy metal rock star... so I don't think he could get away with the whole Yngwie schtick in the bluegrass/newgrass genre!
