I'm finishing a guitar in Royal Lac right now. I've come to like the stuff quite a bit. I use French Polish technique to apply it.

I used Royal Lac on my one successful FP. It wasn't the catalyzed type mentioned above. It worked well.

I just watched O'Brien's video on using Royal Lac and I'm intrigued.

A couple of questions:

1) Did you use Seal Lac before moving on to the Royal Lac?

2) Is there any odor to Royal Lac?

Thanks!

My understanding is that seal lac is simply dewaxed shellac. It's expensive too so I just use regular shellac under it and that allows me to use darker shellac if I want that color. Zinsser Shellac sealer would work well as too.

It smells like regular shellac to me.
