When you say "800" series, is that size-specific? And for all 21st century 800s? I have a 2002 814ce in cocobolo, and a 2006 GS-8 (now designated 826, I believe?). Sounds like a reverse-bluegrass-gauge set. (Only Martin USA names that configuration "bluegrass").

They're designed for the New 800 series, but as someone said before they may bring out desirable characterisitics in other models as was the case in this instance.

Indeed they might. I have a Takamine TAN 15C which is voiced very darkly and has been hard to find strings for. I had gotten to the point of considering putting together a custom set for it. But the gauges that they are talking about in this set look very close to what I was going to try to put together on my own, so they're going to be the next set I try on my Tak.

D'Addario also makes a Bluegrass gauge which is a .012 / .056 (light/med) mix. However, we do not produce this variation.

I have been curious about these strings since hearing about them. Very tempted to try them, though I plan on asking some questions about using them on non 800 series Taylor's next week when the Road Show comes to town.

I found one set at the local Guitar Center. Only set they had left.

I tried a set on my GS6 and think it was better off with the med/lt "Bluegrass" strings.

Switching back.

Came on Taylor 324 and sounded okay but with combination of strings and large frets it was tough on the fingers. I think I will try a Martin D-18. jt

They came on my 814ce, and I've changed them numerous times without any problem finding them (local GC seems to always have them). I'm concentrating mostly on fingerstyle right now, so I switched to normal lights, I like them both.

Taylor string guide recommends HD Lights for only two of its nine six-string body styles - GA (where Lights are also recommended) and GC (where HDs are the only strings recommended)...so pretty much a specialty string combo.

These are lighter at the bass strings and still have the medium guage treble E & B while dropping the guage of the G string to between a medium and light. This is probably due to the extra bottom end of the new performance bracing for this series
They had the HD lights on my new 2015 324e. There was a "string guide" in the case that recommended HD lights on all Taylor GC's and GA's.
This Mahogany toped guitar sounds great with these strings.

They came on my new 814 and replaced them during my first string change. But I love the silky feel of the Lights on my 214...so I'm probably going to give Lights a try on the 814 next string change. As I mentioned in the previous post, Taylor recommends using either on GAs...

Got some at the Taylor roadshow. First set of strings I absolutely could not live with. Took a week to get a new order of some strings I wanted to try and then they were gone.

Could be way off here, but I think they may be similar to DADGAD-gauged sets, or "True Mediums"

I find when I put such strings on a guitar which is used in standard tuning, I always wave intonation problems...but in DADGAD they are fine and sound great.

Has anyone tried the new HD strings in an alternate tuning?

Default other option

I have just recently replaced the light gauge E and B strings on my custom Casper OM (25" scale) with 013 and 017 guage strings. Noticed an immediate improvement in thickness/clarity of those strings and a better overall balance. I would guess it is instrument dependent. Definitely worthwhile change for me. FYI, I ordered packs of 10 of each of the E and B strings from Musician's Friend, very inexpensive.
