I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone play a guitar built with cherry - or black locust or osage orange, for that matter, although they should apparently work very well.

I agree with you. A person who has extensive exposure to and ownership of exotic woods like koa, cocobolo and Tasmanian Blackwood is likely to belong to a category of musician who either has a deep pocket where guitars are concerned, or who is an extremely dedicated musician. I'd guess that the majority of AGFers do not fall into either category.

Best sounding guitar I ever played/owned was a Collings OM2H, but then again, up to that point, I'd only really played rosewood guitars. I then bought a rosewood Avalon L32C, but then a hog Avalon and then a Collings hog C10. So I've gone with hog, although I did play a nice Brazilian Collings CJ last year which sounded wonderful, so might be swayed back.

I've always been a mahogany guy but lately koa and silver oak (grevilla robusta) are starting to gain favor. The silver oak is like mahogany on steroids with a more pronounced and resonant bass.

While my ear tends to favor mahogany I have about a half & half of mahogany to rosewood guitars? I really like both...
