I would NOT have given it up 30 years ago.

When I resumed playing 7 years ago, I wish I had spent more time to really read the sheet music and better work out the song, rather than relying on my memory of the songs - ouch.

You're funny. I didn't know what a Martin was until I was in my mid-thirties.
Well, you guys obviously weren't inspired to take up guitar from watching Roy Rogers and Gene Autry when you were little tykes as some of us older farts were!

Of course, if you're born & raised in Kentucky like me, I think Martin guitars are in your DNA.

I like this answer - it makes me feel better about not playing lots of other artist' material ,

I would also take guitar lessons at the start - I still might at some point

Learning to get it set up and play it like an acoustic - NOT put electric strings on it and think that I could bend the strings up 2 full steps.

Also, to take it into school and impress the girls. I had been taking lessons for nearly 8 years by the time I was a senior and had just learned to sing and play but I was very shy back in those days and didn't want to stick my neck out.

I would have taken the guitar club at my high school seriously. Learning the chords for "House of the Rising Sun". All basic chords.

I would've migrated to fingerpicking a little sooner.
I've always been a little sloppy with a pick, even after 20 years, but it all started coming together when I started finger picking. It's a much more ergonomic and civilised way of playing the geetar.

Also I would've paid more attention in music theory classes, I'm paying for it now.

Wish I really studied the guitar! Never thought I'd be doing it for a living but here I am (studied accounting in college instead). All the guys I know who really studied it are on a whole other level of musicianship!

They serve a purpose for me and my website sir. HELPING beginners. Sorry for the silly game. Everything I have done in my life has lead me here to this chair right now, and if I could do it over I may take some different paths to better prepare me for today in this very moment. Raise your hand if your confused ...LOL
