Gold Tone Microbass
We tried out the Gold Tone Microbass this week. Fun little acoustic bass at a reasonable price. For it's size, it had nice volume unplugged (didn't take the time to plug it in). We tried both the fretted and fretless 23" version. We were surprised on how much they sounded like an upright bass. They have wonderful reviews on-line from what we saw. Anyone own one or try one out?

Was gonna buy one but went on the cheap and bought a full sized electric Yamaha.

Wow, thought more people would have seen/tried these microbasses. They are bigger than a UBass. I think they are relatively new, especially the 25" scale version.

Not familiar with it, but I'm pretty happy with my U-Bass, so I'm not actively looking.

I had one for a while. Great sounding, easy to play and easy to carry. The guys in the band liked it too. I don't think you could play it unamplified if that's what you're after. Also, the rubber strings can get a little sticky at times. When you tune you have to lift the strings out of the slots or they don't move.

Tried out the Kala U-Bass and the Gold Tone Microbass again. The GT had more volume (unplugged), a larger body and longer scale length. Nicely made, great reviews. It has a nice feel to it. So, I went ahead and picked up the fretted version. Looks like a great way to learn bass. Should be fun and a nice size for travel and running to small jam sessions.
Any advice for learning bass will be welcomed.

These are great fun. Woot was selling them for about $300 a couple weeks back but they sold out pretty quickly. Honestly, I don't play the bass but I thought about getting one just to see if I could land in an acoustic duo or small group. It;s easy to play and really does a decent upright imitation. I liked the fretless way better.

I bought one of these, and a Kala U-bass.
Ending up giving the micro-bass to my niece while I kept the U-bass. I liked the sound of the U-bass better, and I liked the fact that it didn't require any batteries. |
