Default For those who know the difference...

The new - no joke - Shinola turntable:

Looks good on paper, but the proof is in the pudding...

Nice, but I am disinclined to look at $2500 turntables these days.

It's a weird name, & I don't know what their deal is - are people supposed to get the reference? It's kind of dated. But the company has been around for a few years now, I think the first product of theirs I saw was bicycles, then later watches ... & now audio equipment?

Does one company in Detroit actually make all these very different kinds of product, or is it all marketing & they just put their name on imported stuff?

My audiophile wannabe days are long over, but I do think it is great that there are folks bringing jobs to Detroit.

I'm a huge manufacturing-pride guy and I subscribe to an online quarterly magazine called Craftsmanship. It highlights tons of different industries and markets. They've done pieces on musical instrument builders, to basket makers to gourmet food makers.

Anyway, they did a piece on the Shinola company making watches so it was funny when I started reading I thought "hey these guys sound familiar!"

From what I've read - they are the real deal.

Looks very promising for the vinyl audiophiles.

It is an interesting turntable and I’m glad I got to read about it as a result of the opening post but my interest in turntables is limited to playing program material unavailable in digital format.

If I had the disposable income, I'd be on this like white on rice. Unfortunately I'll have to live on a lower plateau with my Technics SL-5300, with its direct servo drive...
