That's a shame. Time marches on, I'm afraid. I'm glad she was able to make a little mark on the world and leave a small legacy.

i was lucky enough to see the Roche's at the Whiskey Ah Go Go in Hollywood in 1979. That was a show that I will never forget, one of the best I ever attended.
RIP dear Maggie

A little sample, including an 18-minute clip from an early concert....

I just stumbled across the news a short time ago.
I always like the Roches and their slightly off-kilter approach to the world. They seemed like folks that would be a lot of fun to be around. RIP Maggie. And here's to lots of time left for Terry and Suzzy.

I too was so saddened to hear of Maggie's death. Back in the mid-70's when I was in college they played our university coffeehouse for the entire week when she and Terre were on the National Coffeehouse Circuit. Being on the committee, I got to spend some time with them and of course watch them every night. (Jack Hardy showed up mid-week and put on a good show too with them.)
They had just recorded Seductive Reasoning but it was not yet released, and Suzzy was not in the group yet. But what a nice week it was. Somewhere I have a cassette tape of one of the shows from that week. Gonna have to see if I can lay my hands on it now and give it a listen. |

Sad to hear of Maggie's death. I saw The Roches sometime in the mid '90s, it was an outstanding show.

One of the best alt folk group to emerge during the disco era. Saw them at a Christmas tour in the 2000's. Quirky and majestic at the sam time. She will be missed.

Saw her perform several times, always a great show. While the vocal counterpoint and harmonies were the act's Unique Selling Proposition, the songwriting of The Roches (including hers) was first rate too. Maggie wasn't a showy guitarist, but from what I recall, she handled the more tricky parts guitar wise during performance.
Maggie's "Hammond Song" from the Roches first album is a great example of story songwriting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9e3sqtoRG-Y For a breakup song that uses sick harmonies intentionally and a nice guitar part played by Maggie, who wrote it, there's "One Season" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BztkHU8oyVw

Too young to pass on. In high school she was a senior when I was a freshman, my sister had classes with her sister Terri. Rest in peace.

Oh, no! The Roches are among my favorites. Saw them three times—in 1982, 1999 (this time Gordy came along), and part of their showcase at Folk Alliance in 2007, I think (I recall leaving our showcase as soon as we were offstage rather than sticking around to chat so I could hear at least a song or two. I was surprised, because I thought they’d disbanded earlier). Gone way too soon.
