Doug, realized I forgot to reply, but it was great to see you, as well! Going to try to get to BIG again…depends on how things are going with my new business and if I can take the time away. Meanwhile, this guitar is really something special to look at, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts when it is done and in your hands!

Thanks Jamie, Bill and Paul! I'm really pleased with the way the nitro finish is looking after just the first coat too.

Brian, a big thanks to you for locating these incredibly nice sets of old growth Bois de Rose and sharing that find with others. I hope you'll consider posting more of your builds here on AGF.

Thanks Dennis, I think that may have been a celebratory cigar Michel shared with you and your brother after he sold the MA-M guitar he brought to B.I.G.

Tom, that is fantastic news that Michel will be coming over from France as an exhibitor at B.I.G. V in September! Mike, Diogo and Kevin, I look forward to seeing you guys there. We'll see what guitar(s) Michel brings to the show, I've offered to bring mine if he's not bringing a newer Mod D with him. I have another commissioned build underway with AGF Sponsor and B.I.G. regular, Carpinteria (Dave Bianchin) that I'm hoping to bring to B.I.G. as well, since most folks haven't had the chance to play one of his guitars.

Virgile Pilon has sprayed additional coats of finish on the body and neck of my Mod-D. Now, there will be a wait for drying and curing before he can buff out the guitar and get it back to Michel for his remaining work. He sent a picture of the sprayed neck to me this morning. I love the way the cross-grain Bois de Rose headstock faceplate and ebony backstrap look under finish.

You can see the video clip showing the neck HERE

Thank you Steve. You'll likely get a chance to see the finished guitar in September at B.I.G. V. Speaking of upcoming Texas Guitar events, I'll put in a plug for the Luthiers Interactive of North Texas (LINT) hosting a Master Class with John Slobod on February 24th in the DFW area! I'm considering purchasing a non-member ticket to check that out if scheduling permits.

Sam, I look forward to hearing your thoughts and Antoine Abury's video demo of your new Aboudib Cross-Over nylon string guitar. Possibly bring it with you to B.I.G. so we can all check it out? Yes, the 2021 show was Michel's American introduction into the U.S. guitar scene and was great fun...as they all have been.

Above is a picture of the cross-grain Bois de Rose headstock overlay on my Aboudib Mod-D. The guitar's fingerboard and bridge will also be Bois de Rose. I'm hoping to receive a picture from Michel of his work on the carved bridge for my guitar during the wait for the nitro finish to cure at Virgile Pilon's shop.

Default Michel Aboudib Italian Spruce - Bois de Rose Modified Dreadnought

I received an update this morning from Virgile Pilon of Blind Guitars who just completed buffing out the finish on this guitar:

"Just to tell you that the lacquer cured very quickly, thanks to the warm and dry weather here. Your guitar is all polished and cleaned up...just waiting for Michel to come and collect it (he told me he will come next week)." V.P.

And from Michel:

"Virgile sent me pics of the finish. It's absolutely gorgeous. I'll let him send them to you so you can continue the conversation " M.A.

To say that I'm pleased with how this guitar is turning out would be an understatement, so I send my thanks to Michel and Virgile for their outstanding work and share the pictures below:

I'm looking forward to seeing Michel's hand carved Bois de Rose bridge for this guitar. The neck will have a Bois de Rose fingerboard with EVO fretwire.

Wow, Doug, Michel has built some beautiful guitars, but I think this one is on another level. Just exquisite.

Agree with Bill - exquisite! Equal parts striking and delicate. Really like the combo of the grain's organic flow with the jagged rosette and endgraft patterns.
