Rookie Recorder
Ok, so I'm new to the whole recording thing. Some friends tell me that there is software available such that you can use your computer for recording, editing, overdubbing, etc. True / False? If true, what would you recommend for a beginner?

Audacity is free, and works very very very well. You will need some sort of way to interface the computer to the mics etc. There are also standalone options with small recorders like the Zoom H4N which is a multitrack in a paperback book sized interface with mics which will do the multitracking you speak of. |

I like using Audacity to record raw audio, and then process that audio in another program, since Audacity doesn't handle VST plugins (compressors, EQs, mastering plugins) very well. When you start playing around with VST plugins, one program I've found that handles VST plugins really well is Kristal; you can get it at: http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/ind...ction=download
