Sunbreak - fingerstyle - Jeff Traugott guitar
I wrote this tune as a way to explore DADEAD tuning, which was a favorite of Alex de Grassi in his early days. It started out as a promo for Peghead Nation for my alternate tunings course, and has evolved and expanded a bit over time, so I'm finally recording it in its current form. I'm playing a Jeff Traugott "BK" model guitar, and also experimenting with a Royer SF24V tube ribbon mic for this recording.

Hey Doug, that sounds very beautiful. Not being very theory-minded myself, how would you say the tuning differs from DADGAD? What does it lend itself towards?

Very nice work, Doug! It wasn't exactly clear as to whose song it is? One of Alex's or one of yours!
In any case, the guitar sounded marvelous, the playing was solid and the tune is lovely! Thanks for posting this!

If you just consider the open strings, DADGAD is a sus4 chord, while DADEAD is a sus2, (or add9). It's a bit of an airier sound, less tension than DADGAD. Of course, once you're playing, you're not just getting the open string sound, so it's more about what chord voicings and notes you can reach. This tune started with the little lick that is the main theme, where I'm playing an F# to E pulloff on the 3rd string, followed by a hammer-on from D to E to F# on the 4th string. Having those same two notes, E and F# on the two different strings with a bit different tone just caught my ear. You can't really do that exact thing in DADGAD (or standard)

Thanks, it's my tune. I was just sort of thinking "what might Alex play?" while using his tuning.
