Spare cables
11 days out of gall bladder surgery forced me to pack light: mic, mic cable and a spare mic cable, guitar with new strings, mixer, power cables, lights, mic stand, music stand, speaker stand, powered speaker, guitar, and a single guitar cable -- one that had shrink wrapped ends (a Fender cable). Well, of course the inevitable happened. I stepped on the guitar cable, and it broke. At least I packed an aux cord so I could provide program music.
#packsparecables BTW, I will be repairing it with Neutrik connectors.

Oh man!
One time I packed for a gig (electric band)... drove an hour and got there... Forgot my gig bag with all extras, effects and cables... My wife (bless her heart) drove and met me half way. |

She's a keeper. I can relate.

Even for solo gigs I carry 3 Mics and 4 mic cables and several guitar cords. I have one cable bag with that stuff and a case for mics, straps, strings, extra tuner, 9 volt batteries, etc. I can carry both with one hand, so it's not a big deal and I have everything I might need if the unexpected happens. It did take years to accumulate all this stuff, but it's a security thing now.

Good that you were able to be creative and save the gig. I now joke that I've reached the age of 'just in case' but after surgery would hate to try and carry my now overly redundant gig bag of cables etc.

I have a case that stays in my Jeep (my gig vehicle) with extra xlr, instrument, and power cables. I also always have an extra backup mic.
I use a Hercules iPad mic stand holder for lyrics. As a spare, I have a small Hercules iPhone holder also in my spare case. So if my ipad were to die, I could use my iPhone as a backup. I have an extra direct box (an old SansAmp Acoustic) in that case too so if my Baggs Venue dies, I can still play. All of this stays out in the car, so I'm not carrying a bunch of extra stuff into the gig, but it's there if I need it.

Extra cables for sure - 1 of every type. I even carry an extra mixer (small Behringer) just in case my big Mackie fails. It fits in the same box (with bubble-wrap), so not a big deal to have.

Thanks for this, it had not occurred to me to duplicate my tablet on my phone, as a backup.

Some of the poster sound like they work for NASA and are engineering a probe to Neptune given all the redundancy.

Ha ha!! True. But the total cost for my redundancy insurance is pretty cheap and gives me comfort. It’s too hard to get good gigs and my reputation is important to me. I cannot imagine being dead in the water at a gig because something simple goes bad. To me, these simple backups are just as important as having spare strings and batteries. If my gig is more than 15 minutes from home, I also bring two guitars and an extra powered speaker just in case. Anal? Yes. And proud of it. Ha.

Some gigs are a bit like space exploration-thus the cautious redundancy!

Redundancy is a good thing. Just ask the folks in the band that aren't and ask if I have an extra cable. I'll loan them one... after I'm setup and sound checked.
