Default Need Plastic purfling for rosette on Martin kit build

Hi, i’m currently in the middle of my first guitar build, got a Martin kit which came with rosette pre installed. im done with body, but when sanding it the plastic black/white strip on just one area sanded through. it was clearly not pushed in all the way when they preinstalled it.

its just Black/White, 2 mm wide, 1 mm black 1 mm white. i need about 3 inches of it and wasnt able to find a place to buy it. does anyone know where i could buy some from, or have some leftover from a build?

LMI carries a wide assortment in many sizes. You should count on getting full length strips. It's cheap and you may still need more before your done.

Call him if you can (number should be on his site), he will be able to supply the purfling and talk you thru the process to get it replaced in your rosette. Very helpful guy.

If you got it from Martin, go back to them. I don't know how you plan to remove the binding w/o damaging the abalone (or the rest of the rosette). You shouldn't have to splice a patch, but, if you replace the entire ring it'll be difficult re-establishing the center for a circle router.

Ask for Gail at the Guitar Makers Connection and send her this photo. If you bought it from a reseller, start with them.

Best to remove the whole piece and redo it with a new one, most times we lay these up with single strips

good advice guys, i’ll try contacting martin first. i’ve placed an order for some parts with gail before.

if that wont work ill certainly try bluescreek, ive heard the owner has very good support.

do you really think it necessary to remove the whole rosette? that looks like a major overhaul but maybe the only way to make it work out well.

I would change the whole rosette.

First you do not need to cut a channel.

We typically lay them up ourselves, here is an example
