Default Laptop Based DAW Cooling

No question this time just a report on a success.

My Dell laptop I use for recording was overheating and so I bought a Targus cooling pad for it. 2 fans... figured that would be the end of it.... What I found was that it still was overheating... but it took a while for it to shutdown so I just powered it up for my sessions and shut it down when done.

Well that got to be a drag so i took it to see what it would cost to 'FIX' it... Good gosh! 60 - 200 and they wouldn't guarantee that they would take care of the problem! Not happy I left with my laptop....

So got to thinking about the cooling pad and 'why' it didn't work properly as i considered other cooling pads. I ran across one that had movable fans so you could position the fans right where they would do the best job. So I examined my Targus pad and saw that it was 'blowing' against case and not a vent. While it was being helpful it wasn't being efficient.

So today I took some tubular weather stripping (3/8") and hot glued it down to the cooling pad to create a sealed compartment the base of the laptop completes when sitting on it. This forces air flow where it needs to go... been running for 4 hours now without a problem... so if you're having similar issues there's an idea to play with.
