Default Identify an Electric Mandolin

Steuart Smith of the Eagles plays an electric mandolin on Waiting in the Weeds. Does someone recognize the make and model by chance. Here is a site that has a youtube vid of a live performance and you'll see Steuart at various times from the middle on. http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=9164 Thanks all, Fred

Your best bet is to check out Martin Stillion's www.emando.com or fo a Google search for "electric mandolin" and select the Image tab for search results.

Rudy4, thanks for the reply. I like the emando.com site and I did the "electric mandolin" search too looking for pictures. I went back to the video and kept looking at the various scenes again. The features I noticed were there was no pickup showing, flat top, shaped a bit like a telecaster, the headstock was like a Seagull and then the upper left bout looked like it might have preamp controls. That then triggered the look of a Godin multi. Went to site and found he makes a A8 electric mandolin. That might be it.

That's a Godin A8 mandolin. It's not what I would call an electric mandolin though. A ton of people use them because they sound so natural live.

Petty1818, thanks for the confirmation. What would you call this mandolin. I agree with you that it sounds very natural and that's what drew me to it.

It might just be me but when I hear electric mandolin I immediately think of those mandolins that have guitar style pickups in them. They don't generally sound very natural but they have a cool vibe to them. The Godin A8 is more of an attempt to get the most realistic mandolin tone live. I actually heard a player use one over the weekend and I was blown away by the tone. I might be picking one up soon.

Lots of people seem to go for 4 or 5 string electric mandolins - or if they are guitar players, set them up as ukuleles.
