Agreed, it’s serious business. People seem to forget that 100 years ago, about 50 million people or more died from it in about 3 years. I get all the shots for whatever virus is out there, and all the booster shots too. Whatever helps. I had what I assume was the flu about 12 years ago, and like some of the other posters - good God, what a nightmare. Sleep, when it came briefly, was my only relief. Every waking minute was horrible. I never want to feel like that again.

Since a flu shot can't give you the flu (regardless of what you believe) that's never a valid reason to forgo the vaccine. I was down for a week 20 years ago with the "flu" (not a cold) and that convinced me to get a vaccine every year. That and (go figure) hand washing and masks in high-season or around dense groups of people and I've remained flu-free for a very long time.

Got my first flu shot ever last fall. Since I was getting the other recommended boosters and vaccinations for my age anyway, and loathe getting sick, figured why not. Prior to the pandemic I was big on using hand sanitizer at trade shows, and after it started that became main stream. Since things have eased up, I still carry and use a mask in indoor spaces filled with lots of people close together if I’m going to be there for more than a few minutes, when hearing anyone nearby cough or sneeze, or when flying.

Yep, my lovely wife has been flat on her back for a week with either a cold or the flu.

The yearly flu can be very, very nasty. I had it several years ago, with the awful symptoms you described. Believe me, every year since then I've gotten the yearly flu shot.
