Default Who's your "under the radar" favorite guitar player...

Here's one of mine, Al Petteway. Who is yours? Good way to learn about other players.

You guys are going to laugh at me for my guitar ignorance, but I've only recently discovered Phil Keaggy. How did he slip under my radar? I have no idea. His stuff just captivates me.

Mark Turnbull, from Laguna Beach, CA. Simply a superb guitarist who favors nylon stringed instruments but plays steel strings from time to time...

One of those guys who has fully digested the whole concept of "melody chording" and does it extemporaneously for each song, every solo... never the same, always "reaching" for something he must hear inside of himself... a lot of time, it is very much like watching a trapeze artist without a net to see him soloing...

Also happens to be a marvelous songwriter and emotive singer...

Kevin Breit
Laur Joamets
Verlon Thompson

All of them are sensitive musicians and monster players. In my mind, they should be household names. Maybe they are in your house.

Oops I forgot:

Daniel Donato - if you haven't heard his name yet, I don't think it will be too long.

He / they won't be under the radar much longer. Listening to his 2nd solo album at the shop at this very moment!

Living: the aforementioned NS, Milo Jones (under the radar, try not-detectable-by-any-radar-ever!) Wizz Jones, Daniel Bachman, Andreas Kapsalis, Jim Elkington, Ava Mendoza, Martin Carthy, Richard Crandell

Gone, hopefully never forgotten: Davy, Bert, John. If anyone is wondering about the last names, then the radar hasn't caught up just yet.

Doyle Dykes doesn't get near the attention that he deserves.

Back in '92 Carlos Santana spotted this 16 year-old school kid and said "Watch out for this cat". However it took over two decades for people to start to follow Carlos' lead...

...better late than never.

Andrew Latimer, leader of the British prog band Camel:

(solo at 5:56)

I love his melodies.
