Default Why My Grandson Thinks I'm Too Cool!

Last weekend I bought a deck of cards and showed my 9 year old grandson how to do the ol' "cards on the spokes" trick to make his bike sound like a motorcycle. He now thinks I'm the coolest guy who ever walked the planet.

Kids are great at that age. They haven't become jaded and aren't afraid to show genuine wonder and surprise. Enjoy it before he hits the teen years and has to be cool no matter what.

That's where all my old Beatles and James Bond bubble gum cards went.

Hockey cards? Must be from up north. Baseball cards was typical in my neck of the woods.

Then years later you kicked yourself when you realized it was a Gretzky rookie card or that of another players who's card is now worth a few hundred.

Me too. In fact, back in '64-'65, I collected 96 of 110 of that seasons NHL 'Tall Boy' set (they're the unusual taller cards compared to the normal size). Over the past few years, I bought the remaining missing cards that didn't cost me much. I sold the complete set last year on eBay for US$2,750.

Yeah, the old cards on the spokes motorcycle trick. Waaaay cool! I'll have to remember that for my first grandchild born last fall, when she gets old enough. If I get a grandson at some point, being a boy, he may be more impressed. But who knows.

Don't worry Acousticado, girls do the cards in the spokes thing too. Or, at least, I did anyway. Although we used the "energy" cards out of our pokemon card collections.

We used to use baseball cards for that. Then they became collectible.
You know, I remember when cheap thrills were CHEAP.
Must be getting OLD.
