I think I've decided to get a 594. They get a lot of love over at TGP. It sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. Now I have to find one.

They actually sound quite similar. But are totally different animals as far as size and form factor. The Casino can get some awesome feedback with its totally hollow body, if you like that. Casino probably wouldn’t be as suitable to live performances at high volume for that reason. Otherwise, great. Casino is much larger (about the size of an ES-335). SE Custom is quite compact.

Having a good number of humbucker equipped guitars and a good number of P90 equipped guitars, I much prefer the cleaner, more sparkly tones from the P90s, whereas humbuckers sound comparatively ‘muffled’. P90s have a full, rich tone, with sparkle. And they can crunch too.

P90s are fuller and richer than Fender single coil pickups; and they are cleaner and more sparkly than humbuckers. I guess you could say that the P90 brings the best of both worlds into one pickup. The only downside is more potential for hum, under certain circumstances, but where and how I play, that is not a factor at all.

I have an SE hollow body model. I got it dirt cheap because the pickups and electronics were totally messed up beyond redemption. I stick some Duncans in it, (59 bridge and Jazz neck), then got a tech to do the ports, switch and wiring. More than anything, I love the wide fat neck carve. With my huge hands, it just fits me really well and it's lighter than any guitar I own.

I'm a big fan of the SD '59. I'm sure it brought your SE to life.

Oh lordy yes... In the bridge, it much warmer, but still with really good bark instead of being brittle or harsh.

My new Gold Top McCarty arrived today. It was made in 2002 and looks brand new. All the tags and paperwork we're included the new the perfect case. I think this was a NOS leftover, perhaps from a store that went out of business. It was 40% of the new price. Can't wait to plug it in to compare with the LP Jr..

Yeah I think it will be my "final" guitar. After playing for 50 years and owning over 150 guitars, it seems like the other brand is slipping in quality but PRS is getting better. I keep checking the Sweetwater site every day waiting for a McCarty Sunburst to be in stock.

My McCarty gold top arrived just before I left for the long weekend at the coast. I plugged it in this morning for the very first time.
The neck is wider than most electrics, closer to an acoustic. It came with .009 guage strings which I haven't used in years. I will change to 10 or 11 before rehearsal tomorrow.

The intonation is spot on, better than my SG, LP Jr, or Melody Maker. Tonally, it is what I expected. The neck pickup sounds exactly like the '59 LP Special I sold to a friend while in Grad School. The bridge pickup is bright. The middle position with both sounds closer to the LP Jr. With a clean and clear Tele twang.
I feel this PRS will become my go to guitar for much of what we doead, Hot Tuna, Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal, Allman Bros and such. I will stick to a Strat for Surf Music and country tunes or just rotate them all depending on my moods, which change weekly.

All in all, I am quite pleased with the PRS.

I've owned probably...I dunno, maybe 15 PRS guitars total over the years, and "used" to be a huge fan. I grew up lusting over PRS guitars in magazines and watched Mark Tremonti rock his PRS guitars. Somewhere after my 5th Singlecut I realized that I just prefer more classic sounding guitars.

PRS is the Taylor of the electric world. They are innovative, sexy, and sound relatively good, but they have no real history to their tone and sound best when used for modern music IMHO. They are super clear sounding, which I equate to a Taylor in the acoustic realm. Not bad, but I'm more traditional in my tones.

Crazy thing is that I did find an SC245 that was noticeably more traditional sounding than any PRS I'd ever tried before....and my PRS buying stopped with that one. Paul signed my guitar several years ago at an event, and I've kept it around even though it really isn't my favorite guitar.

If the right Gibson R7 came around, I'd make the deal...

Default I am a fan

I really like PRS guitars but unlike some here have not owned many.

My first is a PRS SE Torero - got it for a ridiculous deal used and it just needed some tremolo adjustment. Switched out the stock EMG 81/85 for 57/66 set and it is a terrific instrument. Very well made, resonant, etc... the wide thin neck with a 14" radius isn't my typical profile but it does play nicely.

But I am picking this up on Wednesday... 2014 Custom 24, 10 top wood library, korina neck, ribbon mahogany back, obsidian finish. I can't wait... been lusting after one since 1988 roughly and finally am pulling the trigger.

Wow - that's really gorgeous! You are lucky. Congrats and enjoy that one!

I have a couple from a long time ago. This is one of the first 250 Swamp Ash Special models made.

Hey J.R., that's a beauty. Does that go back 20 years? Don't think I've ever seen a PRS quite like that.
