Although I'm primarily an acoustic player, I do own a bunch of electrics. Most of them are inexpensive guitars that I intend to modify at some point. I have a strat copy that I put a new neck on and installed Klein Jazzy Cat pickups with the intention of getting something close to an early Mark Knopfler sound.
I also have a tele copy that's with my tech right now. He's upgrading the electronics and installing a couple of tapped "Walk of Life" pickups I bought off some guy in Germany. So once again, going for a Knopfler tone. I think I'm detecting a pattern.

I've never bought a single thing based on a famous pickers chops. I found my gear and sound a long time ago. But, if I could anywhere near approach what this guy did as far as picking, stage presence and just plain partying hardy I'd fall on my knees and thank the Saints.
