Just a follow-up. I recently upgraded the guitar to bone (saddle/nut) and all I can say is WOW. It made the guitar so much LOUDER. I'm going to call Bob Colosi later today to try out some bone bridge pins as well to help with the articulation of the notes. To my ears, bone made a major difference to the sound of the instrument.

I had A CA Bluegrass performer which I sold a few years back on the forum. The only reason I sold it was that was having shoulder/tendonitis problems an wanted a smaller body guitar-the OX. The Bluegrass Performer was one of the best sounding guitars I had played period.

I just love the fact it sounds like a traditional guitar along with the peace of mind of never having to worry about it (i.e. setups, weather). I will admit though, it does have its flaws. It took awhile to get the action just right without any buzz because of its lack of a truss rod. My local luthier went through a few saddles and a complete fret level to get it perfect.

Personally, I've always loved Elixir Phosphor Bronze Lights. I know a lot of people aren't fans of the coating or gauge, but it works for me. I would highly recommend switching out the stock saddle and bridge pins with bone. I immediately heard a difference. It was much LOUDER and added sustain overall. I was skeptical at first about adding bone material to a composite guitar, but it works.

I'll post pictures of my pre-Peavy CA later today

Have you tried John Pearse PBs? I've been using them for years on my CA Vintage Performer (same as vintage Legacy) and really like them. In the last year or so, I switched from lights to New Mediums and really like the way it beefed up the sound without making it much more difficult to play.

Thanks, they are great instruments. I'm not sure how the Peavy CAs stack up to the pre-Peavy CAs, but I would definetly recommend checking out a carbon fiber guitar next time around.

Here is my vintage voiced Legacy. Totally agree that the Legacy dread is the most amazing guitar that CA made, though I do love the Cargo and own two. You were lucky to find a NOS example.

GuitarArmy: As always, lots of options! I swear by John Pearse 80/20s on my CA GX. I also tried Newtone Master Class 80/20s which were great, too, but cost a bit more.
