Default Need DVD lesson advice

I'm looking for a DVD lesson program for the newbie.
I've got lesson material for the new player that covers guitar basics, reading music, tabs, beat..etc......
I'd like to learn to play blues style. From what I see on U-tube, if you learn the scales you can improvise, add a lick here and there and BAM !! Music :-)
If seen Marty Schwartz and someone suggested Mary Flowers. Any suggestions on other programs would be much appreciated.
Thanks

AGF member Toby Walker's lessons are great--I've enjoyed the ones I've bought from him.

Toby Walker who posts on here has some great lessons, from beginner Blues courses to advanced single song lessons. Fantastic value. Just google his name for the website details. Good luck.

Marty is fantastic but does not really follow a structured program. Justin Guitar has a good intro program for blues that is nice.

The thing about blues is it's not just learning scales and notes it's feeling and what you put into it. Technically playing blues is not that difficult getting it to sound like blues is the hard part.

Hi Toolfool,

I'll further the suggestions you're getting: check out Homespun Tapes and Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop. You'll find DVDs suited to your level. Don't get tempted to pick out anything too challenging; frustration ain't the best motivator.

One more suggestion: take a look at Truefire.com. If you are okay with taking lessons on the computer screen, this might be a good choice: I've worked a few of their courses and found them to be high quality.

I ordered this lesson package.
I agree that if the course if to advanced your progress will suffer.
I was impressed with the u-tube clips and I'm thinking it may be just what I'm looking for.
If not, and I need to grow into it, as I progress, that's ok too. The price was right :-)

I agree Toby is great. You might check into Gibson's Legacy Learn & Master Guitar. It's not an end all but quite extensive. Took me about a year to get through it. Last time I looked it had great ratings. That was some time ago.

Truefire.com has a lot of great instructional material that is very detailed and priced so that it won't break your bank. Most of the courses can be downloaded for under $25 each and will keep you busy for quite a while

Here is a link to their study suggestions for various styles.

are you a newbie to blues or newbie to guitar? some of those blues courses above assume a certain level of knowledge or skill. others have lousy little phamplets for books. or don't let you know where on the dvd the song is. check you tube. a lot of artists preview their courses on there. and others post lessons for free. or links to online courses. I like the truefire also but there are many.

Hey Toolfool, let me know what you end up with and how you find it. I had previously been looking for some beginner/intermediate lesson courses but was unable to find anything that really fit the bill.
