Default selmer signet

Had this for a few years. Mid 70s Japan magnavox(ampeg) co. Nicely built sounds good no belly or reset needed after all these years. Clear bright tone.Im thinking laminate body but sure sounds solid. Im thinking worth about 4 or 5 bills. Anyone have any knowledge or input, there's not much I can find on the web. Not your high end Selmers but nice and rare [IMG][/IMG]

Default Signet by Selmer

I have one of those. Its a 1974, prolly their last production year. Mine is a GF402, solid top, rosewood body. Pretty nice old and built by hand Japanese guitar. They weren't cheap, costing like $1,000 in today's money. It's a very stable and well built guitar. I heard they produced a catalog for 1975 but I haven't seen any guitars past 1974.

Selmer is famous for clarinets and horns, and the Maccaferri Guitars worth $30,000+.

The US division was bought up by Ampeg, then Ampeg was acquired by Magnavox. Wish I could find out anything about the Japanese factory. Guess it just wasn't economical for them to compete with that product.

Guess you'd be about right on the value. Problem is, since there's no comparables, most people don't know how to value them.

Thanks for the post stardot I think youre right it was a business decision.Selmer Signet pre magnavox were custom and especially high quality .This is a FG-101 Hog.R your frets very low profile? This may have been dressed or was by design.Ive got a slight dead spot on the b so I need to do some work on it.Surprized it has plastic nut and saddle so Ill put some macarta in there.GEEZ I thought I had bad G.A.S.

Well, speaking as ANOTHER guy named Wade, my experience with little-known Japanese-made guitars from that era is that you'd be lucky to get more than $300 for it. I don't think they ever imported enough of them to North America to create a Selmer Signet guitar fan base.

But I'd be delighted to be proven wrong. If you do decide to and then manage to sell it, plus check back with us and tell us how you did.

Here I was looking around for info and came up with my own post from 5 years ago. My son fell in love with the selmer. Too bad it could use a neck reset but still just a fine player with a low saddle. Thought I'd respond to Wades post about where the signet went... good hands.

I was wondering if you ever found anything out about your Signet as I have one as well. The paper label is missing out of the sound hole so I have no idea what model, serial # or anything else about it.
