Default Apollo recording UI's

Hey All,
i am looking at recording and album and i am looking to purchase a Universal audio apollo twin. There are 3 versions of the new interface out. does anyone have experience with these units. my recording demands arent too serious just acoustic guitar, vox, drums, bass. let me know

Edit: I had misplaced this first post in the general acoustic guitar section (still new to the forums)

I am using a macbook pro with logic pro currently. i know if i need drums i will have to buy an external unit to add more channels as well.

are there other options you guys would consider aside from the Apollo? let me know i'm open to anything. currently i use a focusrite scarlet 212 i think

thanks in advance for the help.

The Mods moved your thread to: http://acousticguitarforum.com/forum...d.php?t=458408

There's a lot of good info in the replies there. I think most everyone commented that the Twin is not the interface to get if you plan on recording drums. You need an 8 channel interface (at the minimum) if you want to do that.

If you're dead set on a 2-channel interface I might suggest the Metric-Halo ULN2 (http://mhsecure.com/metric_halo/prod...are/uln-2.html). I am a huge fan of the Metric-Halo stuff. Rock solid, built like tanks & the best support in the industry.

Is there a good 8 channel UI you recommend?

Are you using a PC or Mac?

Note that when you start getting up to the UA level of interfaces, the assumption is that you have outboard preamps you prefer to use, so the choices are actually fewer than with lower-cost units.

This Motu has 8 preamps and so does this Steinberg

you'll have to bare with me i am a newb to recording.

i have a macbook pro (bought jan-2016) currently i am just recording acoustic tracks using a focusrite scarlet 2i2 and have 2 condenser microphones to record the acoustic guitar.

applications i am using are garageband and logic pro X.

so if you have any ideas for better recording or better interfaces let me know.i just want to get the best sound possible.

Again, look at the new Apogee Element Series. Three models with 2, 4 or 8 mic preamps. Entirely software controlled. Integrates with Logic quite nicely.

The Apollo 8 is the 8 channel version of the Twin. So you're going with the same company/build quality/sound if you went with that.

If you want to go very high end, I highly recommend the Metric-Halo ULN 8 (pricey, but one of the best at any price). They also make a less expensive unit (the 2882) that is very capable (I recorded the vocal sessions for a few video game soundtracks on one of those).

MOTU has some nice units with 8 pre-amps at a few price points (828x, 828mk3, 8pre).

Which way you go will depend on what your budget will allow.

"Best sound"? Is your tracking and mixing space acoustically treated? Do you have some (very) good monitors? If the answer to either of these questions is 'no', then you may want to consider spending your money on these first, because otherwise you are unlikely to be able to hear the difference in moving up to a high-end interface/preamps.

If you're room is only partially treated & your monitors are middling you would do well to get a flat & accurate set of headphones. It will help you with figuring out when your room/monitors are lying to you

Hi again,
I did go out and spend money on a good pair of studio headphones a couple months ago so I got that base covered. Thanks for the input.
