Default Finish is on!

The finish is on and I'm back to work on it! I popped the tuners on because I wanted to see how they matched up with the custom buttons and all. I'll have a bunch more pictures next week as I am setting it up but, here are a couple of the back of the head stock.

I want to point out the turned up top of the headstock. It's a little detail that was more work and it looks so much like it belongs there that I don't think anyone would notice unless I point it out. I tried for awhile to get a picture that brings out the mild upturn;

Here's another shot with a lot more to come!;

Those aged gold tuners look like they were designed just for this guitar! Buttons are perfect! Scrumptious!

Thanks Steve! I like to use alternative woods for necks. Local Hard Sugar Maple is a favorite. It has a great feel and adds sustain.

Default Nuts

Howard, the knife maker that lives down the road gave me my first piece of Olivewood which started me down the path of designing this guitar. He also gave me an old section of Oryx horn which I am planning to use for the nut and saddle.
Today I fashioned the nut blank that I anticipate adding to both the sound and look of this guitar;

Just when you think it can't possibly get any better. Wow!

Edit: In case any of you aren't familiar with an Oryx and were curious.

Thanks! It will probably next week before this one is strung. I'm still designing the bridge. I'm looking forward to it too though.

OK, I guess I won't get away with saying this is an Italian Oryx but, I need black on top and the horn density and the ping sounds right.

Default Bridge

This guitar all started with a piece of Olivewood my knife maker neighbor gave me;

He had it for over 25 years so I'm pretty sure it should be stable. As I'm finishing up this guitar it was time to crack it open and find a bridge;

Here it is, I just had to scrape away some of the wood!

Wow--this one just keeps getting better!

That is a killer bridge to go with an amazing guitar...

Awesome stuff, Mark!
