It does look like an incomplete refinish job. Whether or not it was originally a factory guitar, who knows. There are no number/ink stamps inside? If not, that doesn't completely mean it wasn't a factory guitar. I would either use it as a project guitar to finish myself or donate it to a luthier school. But no one asked so carry on.

Resurrecting this old thread…

I just picked up this same model, and sure can’t find much about it anywhere. Headstock sure looks like that "Sherwood", body and pickguard are just like the OP's.

Anyone have any new thoughts?

Well, if you get yourself a Sharpie and sign the headstock, spray some clear lacquer over it.

It will be a Rickshaw Special.

brimcfarland. It's hard to know, there were many mail order guitars built back in the day. Could have came from Sears, Montgomery Ward etc. It's obviously not a name brand.

I would start researching and see if you can find any information on guitars sold from those places, if any records exist, which is a long shot.
