Default Tone Quest article on Epi Dot

My favorite magazine has in it's most recent offering, a review of a guitar I mistakenly offered for sale at one point on AGF.
They purchased a Epi Dot and installed upgraded pickups. I did the same with Seymour Duncan Seth Lovers as my choice.
I won't spoil the article for you but the statement was made that the end result was a guitar that sounded better than any Gibson 335 they had ever played. Interestingly, I also own a Gibson '59 Historic Reissue 335 and for weeks I've tried to tell myself that this wasn't true, that the Epi couldn't sound as good as the 335, but I was only fooling myself. It does, and it may sound better for some odd sonic reason. Oh, I forgot to mention the 335 has a set of RS Guitarworks pickups that retail for over $400, and a vintage 335 wiring harness.
So, the Dot isn't going anywhere and I appreciate the guy backing out on buying it because I was about to make a monumental mistake. Your takeaway should be obvious. I have about $500 in the Epi and $3750 in the 335. I'll never own a better $500 guitar in my lifetime. I hope this inspires you to do the same!
Quest on!

As an Epi Dot owner, I would like to know what was said. Is there a link to article?

I bought an EPI Dot a couple of years ago - swapped out all the electronics and had Gibson PUs installed. At some point I'll change the tuners. For approx $500-600 it is a great guitar. This is my go to electric. I love it!

I don't know of a link to the article. It's this month's (Sept.) Tone Quest.

A trip to their website might have info on ordering that one issue. If you call them the Editor/Owner picks up the phone and assists you.

I've been a subscriber to Tone Quest for about 4 yrs. now and it's by far the best guitar based mag on the market. No adverts, just info on what they think is good product. As in the case of the Dot, they bought one online and did the mods and then reviewed it. They do this on amps as well. Great writing and non-biased opinions for a change.

Good luck on getting that issue.
