Restringing an Amicus
Hello all...
I am having a heck of a time restringing my Emerald Amicus. I snapped a high "d" string twice trying to get it tuned to its standard (low to high, DGCFAD) tuning. The "d" string that keeps snapping is the shorter of the pair. (the longer one out of the pair tuned up to pitch without breaking) This is my first time restringing it and I am using two sets of the lightest gauge strings I could find, Daddario EJ15's, which are extra light gauge .010-.047. Can anyone offer my some advice as to what I might be doing wrong? Is there a special make of string that Emerald uses for the higher tension on this short scale instrument? Kinda frustrating to be wasting whole sets of strings because one out of the bunch keeps snapping on me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Hi trendkill,
We use D'Addario EXP13 strings on the Amicus -http://www.daddario.com/DADProductDetail.Page?ActiveID=3769&productid=88&p roductname=EXP13_Coated_80_20_Bronze__Custom_Light __11_52&sid=a0ba22e5-2740-4b53-8e94-519b0af65573 Order two sets of these strings, or similar gauges, and discard the two low E strings. Then for the two highest strings we recommend to use .008 or .009 strings. In the factory we use .0085 NY Steel, but these may be hard to source. Our factory string gauges are DD - 0.042 GG - .032 CC - .022 FF - .015 AA - .010 DD - .0085 We hope this helps, otherwise give us a shout any time on [email protected] Kind Regards, Sean |
