Bridge and Saddle Question
I have a vintage Zen-On classical guitar. It appears to be missing the saddle. I cannot tell what it needs. It doesn't have a "slot" like other classical guitars I have had. It is more of a "V" shape. Does anyone know what this is supposed to have?

Likely the "V" was fitted with a piece of fret wire, or, possibly, a metal rod, such as brass.

I think it's supposed to be this way. The "v" you mention IS the saddle, IMO.
Question is: would you replace the whole bridge or leave it as it is? Pretty hard to answer, but have you played the guitar already? How does it feel in relation to string height? I got a great advice once which says "if it's not broken, don't fix it".

I agree with "rodmbds" in that the saddle is carved into the bridge. It also appears to have a screwed down bridge which is often the sign of a cheaper guitar and from that point of view may not be worth spending a lot of money on. I suggest you string it up as it is now and see what happens. Use extra light strings or silk and steel, even nylon and don't tune to pitch, just get it in tune ith itself with both "E" strings tuned down to "D" then at least you will know if the project is worth persuing.

My first comment is that the screw on the right side of the picture you posted seems/appears to be missing. I would be reluctant to "string it up" until a luthier had a look at it.
Second, it looks like it is all there but some what hidden by a poorly applied coat of black paint. Again a close examination by a luthier or tech would seem to be in order. My $.02 worth based on looking at your photo. Good luck! Dave

A bone or metal rod is supposed to set in the v notch. See the pictures in the attached link.
