Default Microphone xlr to usb cable to Android phone.

I use my Android Galaxy S8 to record videos of my playing and singing so i can hear what is good or bad about the performance. The picture quality is fantastic , the audio is terrible. I was thinking about buying a Blue Snowball usb microphone to use as an external mic for the phone. I have already found the appropriate app for the phone to recognize an external mic. My question is, can i just use My Shure or Sennheiser mic with an XLR to USB cable to the phone?
This would be a lot cheaper.

Well lots of views, and no comments. My music store advised me that I needed a microphone that was made to transmit via USB cable, and so I picked up a Blue Snowball USB to condenser mic. I downloaded Open Camera app to my phone which allows me to now choose external mic in video settings. Plugged the USB cable in and now the sound quality is much improved, and at least better than the phone microphone. Could be better but it was a 50 dollar experiment. The do make much better usb mics. At least I know it is possible.

If you have an iphone there are some good sounding mic's made by Apogee.
I believe they only work with IOS so you would need an Apple device.

just saw this. The answer as you have figured out already, no, but they do make mics for this.

You might or might not be able to use a standard mic with one of those USB adapters - the issue is the preamp in that adapter, does it have enough gain for the mic?

Apparently not. I bought the Blue Snowball USB mic. It works better than the Phone mic, but you need to be very close to the mic. I am sure there are better USB mics out there, but I didnt want to spend more than 50.00 on an experiment.
