Bill - great setup. I had to look up the DM-2, analog delay. Is it a discontinued model? Have you had it for years / a couple of decades?

I've a 1965 Harmony Bobkat telecaster-style electric that I've owned since high school ... , still works! I enjoy playing thru a TC Electronics Ditto Looper, then jamming along with the loops. Plays the older surf-style music without any processors very well. Otherwise, I'll often run my guitar cable into my audio interface (presonus 44) and play through Garage Band amp simulations on my Macbook, in my home studio... again, lots of fun... but I agree that a plain signal out to an amp is the purest

Mine currently looks something like this.

Guitar -> tuner -> Dynacomp -> Distortion III -> Small Stone -> amp. I have a few other bits and pieces, so this chain changes frequently. I often plug straight into the amp, though - I've not had the Tweaker for long, and it's easier to get to know its many voices without other stuff in the way.

In the effects loop, there's a Flashback Delay, Hall of Fame Reverb and a Ditto Looper. This bit has been like this for a while, and right now does everything I need. I very rarely play without reverb, even if it's only a small amount.

Currently it's guitar, cable, amp. I would add a good reverb and a Flynn amps hawk, or similar treble booster, but that's it.

Dru:

I actually own three of the BOSS DM-2 Analog Delay pedals. They were made for just a few years back in the 80's, but I bought mine over the past 10 yrs which is when I first discovered them. Absolutely the BEST sounding Analog Delay I've ever heard!

Unfortunately for buyers, harp players think so too and that drives the price up.

I bought all of mine off eBay.

Thanks for the follow-up Bill. 3 of these pedals ... I take it you're a gear nut

When electric guitar players say, "I don't need pedals, just an guitar and amp", I occasionally chuckle.

Imagine a artist saying, "I only will paint with one color".

I don't need pedals, I'm happy to do a gig (I play professionally every week) without the pedalboard but one gig I do is an originals band, I need to do funky wah and organ sounds, add in delay, tremolo, vibrato and boost and that's my pedalboard.

I do think that you should first try to get as much as you can from guitar/pickups/amp choices. However, if a pedal adds a little something extra, why not?

My own amp is a 5F1 Champ clone - no tone controls, and limited gain - so a pedal or two to add some EQ, clean boost, or gain, can really extend the range. Currently I have a Wampler Euphoria, Xotic RC Boost & EP Boost, and a Rockett Animal.
