Lol as I said above I much prefer the N2 over the CA Legacy I had, the N2 is not a deal breaker for me, the old CA would be. That is probably why the N1 will be relegated to a special order. The irony is that I would probably never special order it even though I prefer it. If it never has a truss rod I think a special order N1 would actually hurt your resale value cause most people will go trust rod ever time. Even though I know they will probably never use it.

Default N2 neck

Hey Ted, I am thinking of purchasing the Bluegrass 12 fret and I know it has the N2 neck, after reading all this maybe you can shed some light on the thickness from the fret board to the back of the neck at the 7th fret?
My main guitar is a Bourgeois Vintage D and the neck measures about 3/4 to 7/8 thick I believe it is a modified V, and my Taylor Dn5 is slimmer now that I really look at them but I change off all the time.
Is this N2 neck similar to my Vintage D in thickness? thanks , Jerry

The Rainsong 12-Fret NS neck measures .0873" at the 7th fret from the fretborad to the back of the neck. For comparison the Taylor 12-Fret neck is .0875, the SCGC D12 12Fret is .0892 and the Martin D16 14 fret measures .0890 at the 7th fret.

Hope this helps.

Is there that much difference between the Taylor 12 and 14 fret neck? The measurements below are said to be at the 9th fret of the 14 fret?

Is is safe to assume that the decimal point should be on the other side of the zero in these measurements (0.873 as opposed to .0873, for instance)? Otherwise, those are some really skinny necks...

And, any idea what an original N1 neck measures?
The T5 neck seems to work best for me - the N1 is next.

Thanks...

Steve, the 14-Fret neck measure 0.863 at the 7th fret compared to 0.873 for the 12-Fret.

Ed, the N1 neck is 0.860 at the 7th fret while the Taylor T5 is 0.848 at the same spot.

So the N1 is almost identical to the Taylor.

No numbers, but I have a T5 - love the neck. It is the guitar that made me REALLY want a Taylor. I also have a Rainsong Shorty 12-fret. Going by feel, you notice that the Rainsong neck is thicker. I move back and forth between an 814, GSmini, and the Rainsong frequently - no issues at all.

Hope that helps.

Can relate, you can see from above the measurement differences are very small really. I go back and forth among the various necks I have without issue. But some just feel better and those are Taylor types for me. Profile is probably more important to feel than just the thickness. (N2, a good example) Only one neck I really could not get used to and I did sell that guitar.
