How do you pronounce Amsterdam????

At least I can pronounce Edinborough.....

Takamine is another one....I say Tak-ah-mean-ee but lots say Tak-ah-meen

I once dated a guy whose guitar shop sold Takamines, so I am hoping he said it right!!!!

edit, their customer service say: "Stress the third syllable: tah-kah-MEEN-ee"

Yep, that's right.

Ibaņez = ee BAHN yez.

I always heard it pronounced EYE-bah-nez when I lived in the Midwest. I moved to the Southwest and it becomes ee-BAH-nez, perhaps due to the stronger Hispanic/Spanish speaking influence here. I'm sticking with the former.

It also became epp-eep-HONE-ay when Epiphone started being built in Japan... no, no, seriously!!!!

In other words, as long as people know what you're talking about, why does it really matter?

I've always heard EYE-buh-nez and have for 40 years. Never heard it any other way in any place I've lived.

I've also heard it TAHK-uh-MEEN-ee... but I've never been too concerned about either one's correct pronunciation, and the guitars I've owned by these companies don't seem to care, either.

And the Germans pronounce Yamaha with the accent on the SECOND syllable.

As in, ya-MAH-ha. Of course, when I heard it pronounced this way, the guy was referring to motorcycles.

Pretty sure Ibanez would be, properly pronounced, eee-BAHN-yez. But, I've always pronouced it as Eye-buh-nez. I don't intend to ever own one of them anyway, so I don't really care what you call 'em.

EYE-ba-nez in my neck of the woods

As a matter of opinion, I don't really think the Spanish pronunciation applies in this case. The trade name has been owned and used by a Japanese company for decades now. If they had really intended to push the issue of Spanish usage, they would've retained the tilde over the "n"

I've always said eye-ba-nez

I'm studying Japanese - Takamine is pronounced tah-ka-mee-neh
They pronounced it that way in Japan, so it must be, right?

I don't know if we'll get an official statement from Ibanez on this matter - maybe we should try! lol

However, whichever way Ibanez instruct is the correct version, those folks who own an Ibanez can pronounce the name in a way that they best relate to the guitar This is music

I was happy enough to learn how to spell all those names...

But I will always say "e-ba-nes" with a slight stress on the "e" in the "nes" part.
