There was love all around
But I never heard it singing
No, I never heard it at all
Till there was you

This line accompanies an intense crescendo. This came on the radio when I was just going through a rough breakup years ago, and before I knew it I was a weeping mess, beating on my steering wheel. How embarrassing.

Quite embarrassing yes. What a great song though. I saw them at Eastern Creek in Sydney in about 1995. Great gig.

Society, Jerry Hannan/Eddie Vedder. Sung by Eddie Vedder for the movie Soundtrack 'Into the Wild'
A Bring me back down to earth song with great lyrics.
Society is a great tune...I have to go with :

I watch as your lowered
into your death bed
and I'll stand over your grave
Until I'm sure that your dead

Goodnight Irene
Goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Huddie Ledbetter (according to Arlo)

She said, "If you don't think I'm leaving, baby"
She said, "If you don't think I'm leaving, baby"
She said, "If you don't think I'm going, sweet thing"
She said, "If you don't think I'm quittin', David"
She said, "If you don't think it's 'so long sucker'"
(Screams) "Just you count the days I'm gone"

David Bromberg, Helpless Blues

Quick, Magdalena, take my gun
Look up in the hills, that flash of light
Aim well my little one
We may not make it through the night

I was sitting home alone one night in L.A.
Watching old Cronkite on the seven o'clock news
It seems there was an earthquake that
Left nothing but a Panama hat
And a pair of old Greek shoes
Didn't seem like much was happening
So I turned it off and went to grab another beer
Seems like every time you turn around
There's another hard-luck story that you're gonna hear
And there's really nothing anyone can say
And I never did plan to go anyway
To Black Diamond Bay

You know, I wouldn't hurt not one of you.
I'd much prefer something to chew
and you're all too scant. oh yeah!

Every time I hear that lonesome church bell ring
Makes me think about that song my baby used to sing
