I'll have to look at that pickguard closer in freeze-frame mode, Glenn. I thought I noticed it lifting ever so slightly on the lower area, but I might be wrong.

Before CLP I used to deal a little vintage. One of the last ones was a very clean '69 Brazilian D-35. Yours sounds better than that one did.]

BTW, I thought the key was perfect for the timbre of your voice on this one.

best,
scott

Thanks again for the comments, Scott! I will look at that pick guard closely in real life. It would be ironic if you saw a problem that I had never noticed when I have the guitar in my possession. But as I noted, I am sometimes blissfully unaware of issues until someone points them out.

Just listened again.. Really nice!

You picked up on many of the nuances of ZB song and singing.

Also you got it right...
It's "Between Mard-in and me".. Instead of Mar-Tin and me.
Well maybe I didn't write it right.. But you know what I mean

Sounds good...May I ask how you recorded this exactly?

Thanks!

Hi Jake,

Yes, you are right -- he sings "...between Mard-in and me..." I don't even like to say or sing that, but the use of the "d" in place of the "t" seems to flow better, and so I found that I couldn't quite help pronouncing it that way.

I recorded this song the same way I have recorded all of my videos. It's completely live, no overdubs, no lip synching, so it's really a live performance, the way most people do their videos, really. I have a pair of Rode NT5 small diaphragm mics on the guitar. I have changed out the original cardioid capsules on these to more expensive omni capsules so that there is no proximity effect from the mics at all. I use one large diaphragm AudioTechnica AT4050 for my voice. When I do instrumentals, I switch this mic to omni mode where it uses dual capsules to pick up room sound. When I am singing, I switch the mic to cardioid pattern. All 3 of these mics go through separate channels on two Aphex 107 Tubessence mic preamps and then to inputs on my computer interface which is a Presonus 10-channel device. I use Cubase software. I do a stereo mix down from the Cubase file from the beginning of the synch clap to a wave file. This wave file mixdown allows me to adjust relative levels between voice and guitar. I use just enough compression on each channel to keep from overloading the record amps. I use a little reverb on my voice.

So I record the audio in the computer and at the same time I record the performance with two video cameras. I do a hand clap ahead of the performance to allow me to synch the audio and digital to within one frame on each camera. Then I edit the audio and video together in Adobe Premier Elements.

When I do the actual audio and video recording, I do everything myself. I don't have anyone running the cameras or recording gear. I think it would drive someone else crazy, and besides, it would just take too much time. The time I use to get the job done is bad enough.

I hope that all makes sense. If you have questions, please PM me and I'll try to be more clear.

Regards,
Glenn

As you can see, it's a learning experience. There's a fair amount to it, and of course, practice makes perfect. Every time I do a new one, I learn something new. I keep thinking about buying a 3rd camera, but I just hate to spend more money...

Yeah.. video is cool .. Audio of course can capture the sound and music... but the video helps to add the passion of the performance. Not to mention we get to see the playing..

3 cam shoot? Time to hire a crew

Yeah, 3 cameras might get just a little crazy!

Being in love does blind us to things others see -- and that's a good thing. I doubt my wife would have stayed with me for thirty-four years if she had 20/20.
