Default K&K Meridian

Sold: $120 shipped and Paypaled in the lower 48 USA. I replaced the preamp with a Silver Bullet model. Works just fine. I added the belt clip to the preamp. I also added a few Velcro pieces to better secure the wires on the guitar mount.

How old is this unit and why did you replace the preamp?

I'm not the OP so can't answer the first question but I suspect the answer to the second is that the output of the Meridian preamp is XLR only and it requires phantom power (the Meridian Pro preamp uses either phantom power or a 9v battery) whereas the Silver Bullet preamp uses a 9v battery and has a 1/4" output (no provision or need for phantom power).

Phil is wrong. Both preamps use a 9 volt battery, require no phantom power and have 1/4" in/out jacks. I used the Silverbullet microphone inside my guitar, direct wired into a JJB 330. When the Meridian preamp failed, I simply used the Silverbullet preamp instead, since I no longer needed it. I noticed no difference in sound and didn't even have to adjust my LR Baggs Para DI when I switched. The only difference I noticed between the 2 preamps is the Meridian one had a mid range cut pot. This would only matter if my whole system only had treble and bass adjustments with no mid range knob. I've never seen an amp that doesn't have treble, mid and bass adjustments. Most of us use something like the LR Baggs Para DI anyway, which eliminates any advantage of having the mid cut function on the Meridian preamp. I suggest you call K&K to quell any fears of a mismatch issue. Here's their number: Toll Free: 1 (800) 867-6863 I don't remember when I bought this. Seems like at least 4-5 years.

Thanks for your interest, and thank for trying to help, Phil, even though you were wrong. I'm sure your intentions were good.
Jeff.

They were (but I need to correct this...my OCD demands it )...

The base Meridian preamp (not the Meridian Pro) cannot use a battery, is XLR output only, and operates only on phantom power or an external (and not included) 12v wall wart transformer. The Meridian Pro preamp DOES take a 9v battery, or phantom power (no option for external 12v power) and has both 1/4" and XLR outs. See your link to the Meridian manual in your OP...both preamps, and their power requirements, are discussed therein.

I had looked at your ad because I was considering buying a 2nd Meridian, Jeff, but didn't want the Silver Bullet pre because of the 9v only power option so that's why I took the chance to answer ukejon's question...and I hope he likes the Meridian as much as I do!

Phil
