Moga !
Bless you, bless you, bless you !!!
The 1974 catalog has MY FG700S in it - FANTASTIC! Mine has the "Black Label" which then dates it to 1974. This is the information I have been seeking - I cannot thank you enough. Is it possible to get a translation of the write-up on that page please? I obviously don't read Japanese but I reckon you do! Moga - you have made my day. The Yam is at my feet as I type and I swear it's smiling too!

Thanks very much Moga. One query; my '69 FG180 had the Yamaha name on the headstock and not the three tuning forks logo as shown. I'm wondering if they used the tuning fork logo for domestic sales and 'Yamaha' for exports. Does anyone know for sure?
There are some fabulous guitars in the '81 catalogue! __ Yamaha LL26 Yamaha LL6 Yamaha SA2200

Yamaha Junkie
Yep, reckon I'm one happy bunny.
Interestingly enough, all the headstocks narrow towards the top in this catalog(ue), so it seems that was Yamaha's characteristic design which they changed shortly afterwards. I'm having trouble wiping the grin off my face. I REALLY wanted this info and am SO grateful to Moga for digging this stuff out. You can see that they are scanned actual catalog(ue)s. All I now need is the translation from the 1974 one for my guitar. . . er Moga !!! SNAP !!!

Me being anal . . .
Notice in the 1969 catalogues that the six strings have headstocks that diverge, yet just about all the other later six stringers in the catalogues have that convergent type.
Other than my guitar, my abiding memory of Yams was that they had the divergent headstocks then the 'V' shape. Wow, this is quite exciting when you're this obsessed. I can find any amount of information on my Martin, but frankly, I thought that this Yamaha information was lost forever. Happily, I was wrong

they put three tuning forks begining of 1969 as i researched.even in the 69's catalogue shows you three tuning forks.
So i assume yours is 70's FG-180.. i got my FG-500 with Yamaha logo on it which means it was produced on before 1970.. they put out three tuning forks beginning of 1970s.. Quote:

Moga
Are you able to read the write up in Japanese in the catalogues?
If not, we require a nice friendly Japanese character reader that feels sorry for Yamaha obsessed sad'oes. Any takers ?

Wow! I want an FG400!
There are still unknown answers such as FG500F from the 74' catalog does not come up on the archive. Do FG500 it comes up production to 72' What's a FG500F? I have one of those pricey Yamaha collector books from Japan that are on eBay. They are about the size of a readers digest and written in Japanese. Lots of high quality images. Many stunning custom guitars. I put effort into having it translated once. Both leads fell through. I will ask a college kid to translate the book and if no one pipes up also the brochures. Does any one else have the book I am speaking of? Oh Tony what have you done? 74' FG400W FG450 FG500 FG500F 74' FG700s FG800J OhhhhOhh. My wife is going to hear me mumbling in my sleep! |

I didn't spot my Yamaha CG-160S classical guitar in any of the catalogs on that site. I believe that it's from around 1980 but I can't find out much about it.
I found another owner with a picture at http://www.khriskrunch.com/weapons/y..._classical.jpg Does anyone know anything about this model? It is a student model, made in Taiwan with a cedar top, and sounds really great, even with cracks in the top. |
