IMO buy used, if you insist buying new, then you can look for the seagulls maritime series. I think you can get a pretty good guitar there, but I dunno haven't tried them yet :P but yeah if i were you i would buy used.

Look into:
Boulder Creek Seagull Simon & Patrick Guild Tacoma Parkwood. I've listed them in price order of their lower priced mdoels which for the most part are all excellent quality guitars. I'm not 100% sure that they all have solid tops, backs and sides but I think they do. Go onto their websites and read up. |

Silver Creek, hands down
I got one a year ago. Was amazed at how good it is. (T-170) and bought two more - rosewood and mahogany dreads. They are just fantastic guitars for the money. The tone is excellent and they play easily.
No cutaways, no electronics. Just inexpensive Chinese Martin copies, that are well worth your consideration. Walden guitars are also very fine. You can find B-stocks (finish flaws) on eBay and I have had a D-610 for 3 years. It is a very good, solid guitar. Solid top, with laminate rosewood back and sides. Very nice. But I still give Silver Creek guitars the nod. |

Newb, I know I won't change your mind, but the "Cheapest" all solid guitar, may not be the best sounding guitar for your money. In fact, it may not sound and play better than some of the better solid top, lam b/s guitars on the market.
I've got a custom guitar that cost many thousands of dollars, and a high end factory guitar, and a Seagull with lam b/s that really plays and sound great. I would have to think long and hard before I would part with the Seagull. It's a pure pleasure to play. -Raf

why refuse to buy used or lam guitar?
you will get your cutaway, electronics and all solid if you look used as well as getting the benefit of a guitar that is played in you seem more concerned about laminate back and sides than you do about finding a guitar to actually fit your style or that sounds good. if so then maybe we are the wrong bunch to assist you Last edited by cotten; 04-04-2011 at 06:27 PM. I would put a vote in for the Seagull Maritime series. I have the SWS mini jumbo and it has a wonderful tone for the price, clear, warm and resonant with good balance. The woods are high quality and it is a breeze to play.
The SWS dreadnoughts have more of a Gibson tone than Martin, with that warm dry sound. They also tend to be very consistent in tone. The fit and finish can be inconsistent though. The exteriors are usually very nice but mine has some rough braces, doesn't seem to hurt the tone though. |
