SOLD – 2014 CP Thornton Acoustic Improv – 50s style neck - $2700/offer
SOLD is my 2014 CP Thornton Acoustic Improv. Chuck Thornton is primarily known for building outstanding boutique electric guitars. The Acoustic Improv is a semi-hollowbody guitar with a piezo pickup that is designed for amplified performance without risk of the feedback sometimes occurring with standard acoustic guitars. The guitar has a 1 ¾” nut width, so it will feel familiar to acoustic players. And this particular guitar has a 50s style neck profile (full, but not a baseball bat) rather than Chuck’s standard lower profile neck.
I own a number of acoustic and electric guitars. I currently have five of Chuck’s instruments. They are fabulous. Check out his reviews and visit his website. cpthorntonguitars.com I just purchased a new (to me) Tippin acoustic, and I need to raise some cash. So I am reluctantly putting this guitar up for sale. As it is both an acoustic and an electric, I will list it both on The Acoustic Guitar Forum and on The Gear Page. This is Chuck’s description of the guitar. “The Acoustic Improv is designed for the acoustic player who wants to play live. I couldn’t believe how many times I saw amazing players with beautiful guitars that just sounded flat when amplified. This is my solution… you really can get the full Martin-like sound live. Just plug into the PA. Plus, my patented sculpted heel design gives players full access to the upper frets.” Specs are as follows: Upper Bout - 10 5/8" Lower Bout - 15" Side Thickness - 1 3/4" to 2 1/8" Overall Length - 40 5/8" Scale Length - 25" Headstock Angle - 13° Nut Width - 1 3/4" Neck Profile – Large String Spacing @ bridge - 2.025" Body: Douglas Fir w/ Master Grade Sitka Spruce Top Neck: Douglas Fir Fretboard: Macassar Ebony Binding: Ivoroid Radius: 12″ Scale: 25″ Fret Wire: 6230 Tuners: Gotoh 510 w/ Ivoroid Buttons Pickup: Fishman Tailpiece: Macassar Ebony Bridge: Fishman Power Bridge Paint: Nitrocellulose Honey Burst Finish Weight: 6lbs 5oz Case: Deluxe Gator Hardshell New, this guitar would be $5,315. It is excellent condition. 9.5/10. I took it to Chuck recently to have it set up. I am the 2nd owner. The photos are from the guitar shop (Rebel Guitars) that acquired it from the original owner and sold it to me. Their original for sale listing can still be found online. I paid $3,600 for it last year. SOLD $2,700 or best offer including Paypal and ground shipping in the continental U.S.. No international sales. I have bought and sold several guitars on eBay, The Acoustic Guitar Forum, and The Gear Page. Although I was looking for a cash sale, I would be willing to consider trades of comparable value for small bodied acoustics from builders such as Santa Cruz, Bourgeois, Froggy Bottom, and Collings, or electrics such as Gibson Historic, Fender Custom Shop Tele/Esquire, PRS 12 string. Open to cash offers for this guitar. It's a rare combination of being an Acoustic Improv (not many out there) and the larger neck carve. It may be the only one with that neck profile. Let's find a new owner!

New Price! $2700/offer. This is basically 50% of what this guitar would cost if Chuck built it today. And it is essentially a new guitar. I hate to part with it, but I need the cash!
