Ain't nothing wrong with a cheap guitar... I've got a Gretsch Jim Dandy that I'm pretty much in love with—it gets about as much playing time as my Martin D-18V Custom Adi. Go figure.

Just to be clear about my response.

I don't know enough about Recording King to make a judgement.

My response might have sounded snotty, but the emphasis was on "cheap". I wouldn't consider buying a guitar just because it costs $100. Didn't mean to imply that a cheap guitar couldn't be fun to have around, or that it might sound pretty good.

This is my review of an RK ROS-06. It's not a Martin but it doesn't suck and it's well worth the asking price.

If you are a player, this guitar is well worth your time to try it.

What model(s)? Nothin on there now. I had a parlor Colin top slot head for a while. Very thick neck on it, didn't get along with it so much.

I guarantee that the very wealthy, big-spending, non-playing collectors are not spending their time posting here. And I guarantee that almost all of us began playing lousy, cheap guitars and gradually gravitated towards the most playable instruments we can afford. Sure, some like bling, and sure, some get wrapped up in relative details, but I know about a zillion guitar players and have encountered maybe one or two who were materialist condescending collectors. So lay off. If your Recording King sounds as good or looks as good as your Martin, you got ripped off when you bought a dud Martin. I'll buy you a new Recording King and swap it for your Martin if what you say is true.

I gave your video a listen. That is a nice sounding guitar.
The reality today is there are a significant number of really nice guitars of many brands that are very affordable and that's a good thing. I own three guitars and only one is a highly recognized brand. The other three are known but not considered as mainstream. Nobody I play guitar with even cares that much. They just say whether they like the guitar or they don't. I think that some folks on both sides of this get a little carried away with emotions.
If something costs $100 and something else $1000, of course you wouldn't trade them even up. All I know is if the headstock is a high profile brand, people usually assume you spent a lot of money on the guitar and today, that isn't even the case anymore. Now thay have to know which model.

If it sounds good to you play it. This forum is loaded with fan boys and collectors. I know there are some great players on here but often this place is about guitars and that is that.

Really? The OP tells us he bought a new guitar and you crapped on it. And no one here has said their Recording King was better than their (or any) Martin.

Hehehe. Well I'll be truly surprised if my Recording King turns out to be anywhere near as good as my Martins too. I don't remember the model number. I just remember it was an 0 and called a "Harmonella". Can hardly wait to see what Recording King is all about and I hope this guitar is a good representation for the brand.
